The 2024 Airtel-Bika Tournament culminated in a thrilling finale at Wankulukuku Stadium today, with the Ngabi Nsamba clan emerging as the champions.

The clan secured the title with a 1-0 victory over the Mpindi clan, marking a significant achievement in this prestigious cultural tournament.

Among the standout performers in the tournament was Lugazi FC’s very own Faizo Matovu, who played a pivotal role in his clan’s success.

The Airtel-Bika Tournament is a revered event that brings together clans from across the Buganda Kingdom, celebrating cultural heritage and fostering unity and community spirit.

This year’s tournament attracted participation from 52 clans, representing the diverse Buganda totems.

The clans competed fiercely in both football and netball, progressing through elimination rounds until reaching the final stages of the competition.

In the final, the Ngabi Nsamba clan showcased their resilience and skill, securing a narrow yet decisive victory.

Faizo Matovu’s contributions on the pitch were instrumental in this triumph, adding another feather to his cap and bringing pride to Lugazi FC.

The journey to the final was a testament to the determination and talent within the Ngabi Nsamba clan.

They edged out Omutima Omusaggi 2-1 in the semi-finals, with Bruno Bunyaga scoring a brace.

The victory in the final was their fifth championship win, with previous titles in 1951, 1987, 2007, and 2013.

During the trophy presentation, Charles Peter Mayiga congratulated the Ngabi Nsamba clan on their victory and praised the efforts of all participating clans.

He highlighted the significance of the Airtel-Bika Tournament in promoting young talent and celebrating the heritage of the Buganda Kingdom.

“The Airtel-Bika Tournament not only provides a platform for young people to showcase their talents but is a celebration of the different clans and the heritage of the Buganda Kingdom,” the Buganda Kingdom prime minister stated.

“It serves as a unifying factor in the Kingdom and surrounding areas, and I’m happy to see the tournament garner such strong support and a loyal following within the Kingdom,” said Mayiga.

He also acknowledged the role of the tournament in driving social and economic development, bringing people together to support their teams and engage in entrepreneurial activities.
