FUFA Big League (FBL) Matchday Two Result:

Lugazi FC 3-1 Ndejje University FC.

Lugazi FC managed to take all the three (3) points in their first ever home game in the FUFA Big League (FBL) courtesy of a 3-1 win against Ndejje University FC on Thursday 20th, October 2022 at the Lugazi FC Stadium in Najjembe.

The ‘Leaders’, as they are baptised, started the game on the front foot, playing themselves into an early lead in front of their home fans who turned up in big numbers.

Brian Ssali Elijah broke the deadlock with a thunderbolt strike from a direct free kick, with fourteen (14) minutes into the game to send the home fans into jubilation and frenzy.

Ssali’s goal was the only difference between the two teams at halftime.

In the second half, it was a similar story as Sharrif Kassim’s side (Lugazi FC) had to cope with quite a number of ‘dangerous’ moments of play from the away side (Ndejje University).

Five (5) minutes into the second half, Gerald Ogweti was brought down in the penalty area and the centre referee awarded Lugazi FC a penalty which Ogweti himself converted to double the lead.

Tito Titus Lubega was later on substituted and his place was taken by Shafic Kiryowa with one minute to the hour mark.

Ndejje had a chance to pull a goal back and halve the deficit, but Brian James Obedi missed from the penalty spot when his kick went wide in the 61st minute.

In the 70th minute of the game, Lugazi FC’s Muhammad Lubega Gift made way for Arafat Agonda.

Ssali Brian Elijah had an opportunity to register his brace on the day in the 76th minute but his attempt was inches away from goal after Shafic Kiryowa had released him.

A few minutes later, Ndejje University FC were awarded yet another penalty, and this time round, Samuel Nsubuga converted it to make the scoreline 2-1, and tickle a few nerves for the home side.

Coach Kassim then introduced Isaac Andrew Tamale for Ronald Kidawalime in the 84th minute, most probably as a “party spoiler” and hopefully cement the victory.

After just five (5) minutes on the field of play, Tamale was brought down by a Ndejje defender, and Ogweti converted the resultant spot kick to make the victory more than certain.

Victory against Ndejje University FC takes Lugazi FC to fifth (5th) position on the 2022/23 FBL log with three (3) points and a +1 goal difference from the two (2) matches played, with one point separating them from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams.

Lugazi FC will pay a visit to the Western Region of Uganda to play against Mbarara City FC in their next fixture, that is, on Thursday 27th, October 2022 at the Kakyeeka Stadium.
