Lugazi FC will play against Acholi sub-region club Acholi United Football Club at the Round of 64 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The Leaders had a short run in the competition last season, where we were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Express FC – the joint record winners of the competition – at the Luzira Prisons Grounds.

Allan Kayiwa’s penalty after 23 minutes ended the campaign for Lugazi, who had to play more than three quarters of the game with a man less.

Richard Makumbi’s men will be hoping to go one better this term, and we begin our cup campaign with an away trip to the Northern part of the country.

It will be the first time Lugazi faces Acholi United, who play in the third division under the Northern Football Association that covers both the Acholi and Lango Sub Regions.

After the envelope containing Acholi United was opened, by Isma Karungi who was part of Coffee FC’s 1971 cup winning team, then former teammate John Baptist Luboga drew the envelope containing Lugazi.

As the tournament celebrates its 50th anniversary since Coffee FC defeated Simba FC during the 1971, the two football greats were invited to conduct the draws at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

The game will be played on any day between 18th-31st, January 2024, as FUFA will communicate accordingly.

The draw threw up other eye-catching encounters such as Lugazi Stars vs Vipers SC – who are the defending champions, Admin FC vs KCCA FC.
