The Leaders finalized preparations for the new season with a comprehensive 4-0 defeat of Kampala Region League side Dream chasers on Wednesday.

It was a day of funfair and celebration for the club and its fans, with activities starting with the presentation of the players that will represent us in the 2023/24 season.

When the game proper kicked off, Lugazi started, having the bigger share of possession and were nearly up within the first two minutes, but Kalanzi was let down by his first touch.

Samuel Ssemugugu had the best chance of the opening quarter of the game, but his glancing header off Arafat Bagala Agonda’s cross was over the bar.

Lugazi should have taken the lead 25 minutes into the game, when Savio Kabugo’s long pass over the top sent him through on goal, but his attempted dink over the goalkeeper was lacked power behind it.

The Leaders kept on wasting chance after chance, with head coach William Kyeswa growing more disgruntled on the touchline.

At the half hour mark, Lugazi eventually took the lead, Ssemugugu prodding in from close range after brilliant work from Umar Kayemba to set him up.

Lugazi had the ball in the back of the net shortly after, but Samuel Nsubuga goal was chalked off for offside.

Dream Chasers gave Lugazi’s backline marshalled by Savio Kabugo and Faisal Matovu was given something to think about when Kizito Ryan ‘Figo’ played through captain Aboubakar, but he was denied by the woodwork.

Following a good first half display, Kyeswa made wholesale changes in the spirit of the game, introducing a fresh XI that included new arrivals like Shafic Kiryowa and Ronald Ssempala.

The Leaders went into overdrive, scoring three times inside the opening 10 minutes of the half.
Shafik Kiryowa introduced himself to the club’s fans, finishing off a clean move for his first goal at the club.

Kiryowa scored his second, tapping in at the far post from Ssempala’s threaded pass. Ssempala then got his name on the score sheet, curling one into the top corner from 25 yards.

The Leaders despite being dominant for the final 10 minutes of the game could not add to their four goals, as they wrapped up their pre-season preparations.

The club’s new season campaign kicks off with a home game against Ndejje University on Wednesday, September 27th.
