Seeking a first Premier League double over Kigezi HomeBoyz, Lugazi FC make the long trek west to battle the Gorillas in Sunday’s intriguing BetPawa Big League affair at the Kabale Municipal Stadium.
The Leaders were held to a goalless draw in a chaotic clash with Kataka FC last Sunday, while Kigezi played out an edgy 1-0 defeat to Kaaro Karungi.
Positioned third with 41 points, Lugazi is in the thick of the promotion race, with only five points separating them from the eighth place.
Lugazi comes into the game on an underwhelming streak, having won only once in their last five matches.
This includes a narrow defeat to Onduparaka and a goalless draw against second-placed Kataka.
Despite these challenges, Lugazi is the league’s most in-form side on the road, collecting a league-high 18 points away from home, with just one loss against Onduparaka.
Ahead of the game, head coach Gerald Efit shared his thoughts, saying, “The boys are confident, they are in shape and have acclimatized well, because Kabale is colder than elsewhere in the country.”
“We are going into this match with the spirit to fight for the three points, because we have not picked up the best results in the previous games.”
He further highlighted, “And we have also not scored in two games, so we have to fight to correct that, but also win to improve our chances of achieving our goal of promotion.”
In their earlier meeting this season, Lugazi edged out Kigezi 2-1, thanks to goals from Freedom Mungudi and Samuel Ssemugugu, after Davis Muheirwe had leveled for Kigezi in the 20th minute.
Kigezi, currently in ninth place with 33 points, has been strong at home, securing 26 of their total points and remaining unbeaten in their last five home games.
Lugazi will continue to be without defender and captain Savio Kabugo, who is still recovering from a shin injury.
