In what promises to be a thrilling encounter, Lugazi FC is set to host Mbale Heroes at the Lugazi Stadium on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the BetPawa FUFA Big League.

This early-season meeting between two formidable sides, Lugazi and Mbale Heroes, holds the key to who might gain the edge in the race for promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

Both sides have had a solid start to the campaign, as they are among only four sides in the division yet to suffer defeat.

The Leaders followed up their 3-0 thrashing of Ndejje University on the opening day with back-to-back draws against Police FC and Booma FC [the other two clubs still unbeaten in the division].

Mbale Heroes, on the other hand, edged Kaaro Karungi 1-0 in their opening fixture before they were held 1-1 by Jinja North and played out a goalless draw against Young Elephants last time out.

Lugazi boasts an impressive home record with seven wins and two draws in their last 10 matches on their own turf.

This home advantage could play a significant role in their performance against the Heroes who on the flip side, Mbale Heroes has struggled away from home lately, failing to secure a victory in their previous 5 away games.

One notable highlight of Lugazi FC’s season so far is their exceptional defensive performance.

The Leaders are the only club yet to concede a goal this season. The solid defence has been the cornerstone of the campaign, but they aim to sharpen their finishing in front of the net.

Coach Kyeswa acknowledges the uniqueness of every match, particularly when facing a side like Mbale Heroes, who are also eager for qualification.

He emphasizes the challenge posed by familiarity with the opposing squad, expressing respect for Mbale Heroes’ coach, Asaph Mwebaze.

“This will be the first time I meet him on the touchline,” Kyeswa told Lugazi FC TV.

“However, the majority of the players in their squad, I have knowledge of them and how good they can be on the day, and that makes it a tough game.”

“Every game has its own demand, and playing against Mbale Heroes who are aiming for qualification makes it tricky.”

“Not all our performances have been the best we can do so far, but we are working to improve everyday and get better in every game,” he added.

“How we defend has been the highlight of our season so far, the only problem is we are not putting away our chances even when we create quite a number.”
