Lugazi FC edged 2-1 passed NEC FC to register their first ever FUFA Big League away victory in a game played on Thursday 4th May, 2023 at Coffee Grounds in Bugoloobi.
The game witnessed two technical changes from the previous one where Arafat Agonda was introduced to replace suspended Derrick Ochen in the Left-full back while Shafik Kiryoowa was in for Fadili Marijan who is nursing some illness.
Lugazi FC sealed it by halftime with Gerald Ogweti’s brace both in the 33rd and the last minute of added time to secure maximum points to the leaders.
Right from the start, the games seemed to be knotty for both sides mostly due to a glistening ground however it didn’t contravene the lads from outplaying the opponents.
Meanwhile, Gerald Ogweti opened the score sheet converting from a rebound off a goalkeeper after an initial shot from Shafik Kiryowa.
Having added five minutes to halftime, Ogweti further doubled the lead in the fourth minute capitalizing on a defense negligence and this therefore implies that the goal poacher added on his tallies to 17 goals.
Despite several efforts from the hosts, the second half witnessed bountiful chances which kept the opponents at bay particularly from Umar Kayemba, Shafik Kiryowa and Gerald Ogweti however none counted.
NEC FC later pulled one back in the 78th minute with late substitution Geoffrey Sserunkuuma’s solitary score that settled for a consolation.
Only two changes were made on the day where Umari Mihinzi came in for Arafat Agonda close in the 70th minute while Gerald Ogweti paved way for Charles Bob Akena in the 82nd minute.
The result then indicated Lugazi FC puffed up to the fifth position with 40 points while NEC FC retained the third position with 51 points.
