FUFA Big League 2022/23 season:

5th position with 44 points.

The mighty Lugazi FC transpired the fifth position in the just concluded 2022/23 FUFA Big League season with a couple of 44 points.

This was the first season for the Lugazi based outfit to take part in the second flight tie having advanced from the 3rd division league last season during a play-off game against Kajjansi UTD FC at Kavumba recreation grounds.

The season witnessed a couple of uncertainties from the start despite the resilience conveyed.

Meanwhile, at the start, FUFA approved our home ground in Najjembe thus the team shifted from Mehta stadium and had to host home games at Lugazi FC stadium in Najjembe.

Throughout the season of thirty games, Lugazi FC managed to host all the home league games with no failure.

The season kickoff saw a non satisfying performance not until the second round commenced with some technical changes.

The changes implied the acquisition of a tactician William Kyeswa who replaced Augustine Nsumba as well some new players.

Midway season, the team boosted the squad with the acquisition of Umari Mihinzi Mbusa from Mbale Garage FC, Derrick Ochen from Blacks Power FC, Umar Kayemba from Lugazi Municipal FC, Buni Godfrey from Lugazi Municipal FC, and Emojong Anthony from KCCA FC reserve team.

Lugazi FC played a total of thirty league games and managed to win 10 games from home while winning two away from home and drawing eight times all round and losing in ten games.

Therefore it’s an implication that the Leaders finished with 44 points however in the Stanbic Uganda cup, Lugazi FC was stamped out from the round of 32 by Express FC on a 1-0 goal deficit in a game played Maximum Prison grounds in Luzira.

Throughout the season, our own goal poacher Gerald Ogweti was ranked third in the top scoring rate with 18 goals in 28 appearances which is a milestone in the skipper’s carrier.

Lugazi FC has been ranked number one for having the biggest crown on away games while third in home games country wide.

The club chairman Mr. Abdul Kawuulu Mwanje applauded the fans for the support for the team during his speech after the last home game against Kataka FC.

” I first of all thank you for attending in big numbers as we come to the end of the season, this is our last home game this season and would like to appreciate all of you for the support and love our team,” Mr. Kawuulu admits.

He further added, ” it’s because of you that we are still standing firm for it is hard to stand alone and come up with such a big entity but we thank God that we have reached this stage, we hope for the best come next season and I still call up on you for the support.”

Meanwhile, Lugazi FC closed the campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory away from home over Calvary FC in a game played at Midigo P/S ground on 18th May, 2023.
