Freedom Mungutid made a bright Lugazi FC debut as just like last season, us and Booma FC couldn’t be separated on a bitterly cold afternoon at Masindi Stadium.
We delivered a display of incredible heart and character to secure a goalless draw in our 4th Betway Big League game with Booma despite wasteful chances evidenced at Masindi stadium.
With Savio Kabugo, Ronald Ssempala, Moses Buga and Louis Anguti all ruled out of this match, numbers were tight and we had to name a young bench.
The hosts, who were almost at full strength, made a fast start and Fahad Emran had to be alert to deal with a teasing Amos Muwonge cross.
The entire half-time saw a great coordination in the defence line with Wasswa Paul who had his first full debut of the season partnering with Faizo Matovu.

Despite a strong resilience in the defence, we had numerous chances of taking a lead with Solomon Akodi’s goalkeeper to beat incident 15 minutes before the break.
Immediately after the restart, the gaffer made two changes that saw Samuel Nsubuga paving way for Sam Ssemugugu and captain Brian Ssali coming in for Derrick Ochen.
The Masindi Stadium was getting increasingly restless as we entered the final 20 minutes, and with coach William Kyeswa and his staff willing the team on animatedly from the touchline, we were growing in confidence.
The high temple was fueled by the last two players introduced on (i.e) Shafic Kiryowa for Freedom Mungudit and Umar Kayemba for Derrick Mwanje.
We then carved out a big chance as Wasswa Paul rampaged forward, and his cross was touched on by Abdul Kalanzi in the area before taking a shot that a goalkeeper saved.
It was tight and tense, but in the last minute the hosts were presented with a huge chance when Emran’s punch came to Sserunjoji outside the box, but with an open goal he flashed his shot over the bar.
Despite some late pressure, we stood firm to hold out for what felt like a huge draw considering the circumstances. What a display of character.
Following this, we now declined to the 4th position with 8 points just two below the table contenders.
We are now shifting our focus to the next game against Mbale Heroes next weekend on Sunday 29, October at home.
