Lugazi FC took to the pitch on Monday afternoon in a friendly match against StarTimes Uganda Premier League side Gadaffi FC at the Gadaffi Arena in Jinja.

The game set the stage for their return to action in the BetPawa FUFA Big League’s second round which is set to kick off this week.

The game ended with a 2-1 victory for the hosts, but there were plenty of positives for head coach Richard Makumbi to take from the game especially following a competitive and goalless first half.

However, it was Gadaffi FC who broke the deadlock in the second half. Baker Buyala and Sharif Ssengendo found the target for Gadaffi, giving them a 2-0 advantage.

But the Leaders pulled a goal back with just five minutes left on the clock, with Ssali Brian scoring a late goal to narrow the deficit.

Lugazi’s second round campaign begins against another promotion hopeful, Police FC, at the Kavumba Recreation Grounds in Wakiso.

The upcoming fixture against Police is particularly significant, as they currently top the standings with 39 points, while Lugazi FC sits in second place with 29 points.

Lugazi FC’s head coach, Richard Makumbi, used this friendly as an opportunity to fine-tune his team.

January signings Richard Ayiko and Ali Bayo were given starting roles in the game, showcasing their potential contributions to the squad, with Makumbi giving his entire squad some minutes throughout the game.
