Uganda Premier League

Lugazi FC Vs Express FC

Lugazi FC Stadium

Kick-off: 4PM

We are back on home turf this Thursday as we face Express FC at the Lugazi FC Stadium-Najjembe, 4pm on match day 19.

Lugazi FC will be looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat to NEC FC. For Express FC were in action on Monday this week and earned maximum points after a 4-1 win at home to Wakiso Giants.

The last time these two sides met was back in October when the Leaders beat the Red Eagles 1-0 at the Hamz Stadium-Nakivubo for our first win of the season.

Since the turn of the year, Steven Bogere’s men have been in red-hot form – losing once, and winning four games across all competitions. A return to winning ways on Thursday is therefore very much possible. The first leg victory over the visitors also breathes confidence into the squad coming into this fixture.

Before Monday’s resounding victory, Express had lost their past two league games on the trot but sweeping aside the Purple Sharks looks to have resuscitated them, making Thursday’s battle in the forest an intriguing one.

We still currently sit in the 11th place on the Uganda Premier League table, with 20 points got from four wins and eight draws after 18 games.

Our opponents Express occupy the fifth position on the log with 28 points.

Team News

Industrious midfielder – Derrick Mwanje will miss the match through suspension after accumulating three yellow cards. Defender Rogers Atube has returned to full training, and will be assessed to determine his readiness to feature in this game.

The rest of the players are available, and everyone is yearning for an opportunity to step onto the pitch.

Speaking about the clash, Coach Gerald Efiti said the team is focused on winning this game, nothing else.

 “After defeating them in the first round, we are going to do more on Thursday so that we can beat them again. We are in a delicate position and we want to win this game so that we can maintain this team in the topflight league.”

Defender Emmanuel Obua said;

“We lost our previous game due to slight mistakes we made but we have rectified them through the training we have had, and we are hoping to have a good game with positive results.”

“Given their big history in football, we shall give them respect for that but we are not going to fear them. We are going to handle the game very well because we need maximum points.”

“Fans should come and cheer us up, and we shall manage to pay them back with a win. We need to make them happy again as we aim for a double over Express.”
