We have completed the signing of defender Dauson Mafumu from Express Football Club on a two-year contract.
Mafumu, a versatile defender capable of playing at left back, center back and in the central midfield, becomes our first signing of the primary transfer window.
Speaking with us after signing his contract, the 22-year-old said;
“I feel excited because I believe Lugazi FC is the right place for developing my career. The club has a strong vision, and I feel like I can grow here as a player and help the team achieve great things.”
“I’m strong both in attack and defense. I’m good at delivering accurate crosses, making clean interceptions, and helping the team transition quickly from defense to attack. These abilities allow me to support the team in keeping shape, creating scoring chances, and stopping opponents effectively. I believe I can contribute to both sides of the game and help the team stay balanced and competitive,” he added.
He makes the move to the Leaders after three impressive seasons in the Uganda premier league with Express FC.
The defender’s football career began in the mid-2000s with Makindye Soccer Academy when he was just three years old, and spent about 13 formative years there developing his football skills and tactical awareness.
In 2018, Mafumu was transferred to Express FC Junior Team for whom he scored nine (9) goals across two seasons in the FUFA Juniors League—an impressive feat for a defensive player.
His impressive performances with the junior side earned him promotion to the senior squad of the Red Eagles in 2020 – becoming a vice captain of the first team three years later. While in the senior team, he demonstrated versatility – playing as a center back, left back and as a midfielder – showcasing vision and leadership in all the roles on the pitch.
Dauson Mafumu was also a key pillar for Kibuli Secondary School during their fantastic run to the 2022 FEASSSA Games – boys’ football title in Arusha, Tanzania.
