Following a trial period of two months, forward Wabwire Billy has impressed enough, earning a two-year contract with the Leaders.

Wabwire, born and bred in Namayingo district-Eastern Uganda, arrived at the Lugazi FC Stadium towards the end of June for the trials that attracted 45 players from seven different countries – including DR.Congo, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda.

Daily and rigorous training drills have been the routine for the trialists for the past period, and Wabwire stood out from the rest – showing immense potential to develop into an elite striker that opponents will fear to play against.

He has the innate ability to find space in tight compacted areas and possess a sixth sense of where the ball may end up. Most importantly, Wabwire can strike the ball cleanly.

His hold up play is good, and he’s about to become excellent while using his body given that he’s now receiving proper training.

When it comes to movement and forward runs, he is up there with some of the elite strikers that have played topflight football for ages. He’s calm, confident and boasts with utmost composure even when under pressure.

Wabwire is also good at defending from the front. He has that strong work ethic and defensive mind-set to press aggressively and hunt the ball down to win it back near the opponent’s goal.

“I am enjoying life here at Lugazi FC. I am loving the training and everything is moving on well,” he said.

“I had lost hope, I was almost giving up at playing football but I feel privileged now. This is a golden opportunity for me and I must take it with both hands. I must use this chance to resurrect my career, and also help the team win games.”

Welcome to Lugazi FC, Wabwire!
