Uganda Premier League
Lugazi FC Vs Calvary FC
Lugazi FC Stadium
Kick-off: 4pm.
We kick off the 2025/26 Uganda premier league (UPL) season at home to newly promoted Calvary FC on Friday evening.
Underscoring lessons we picked from last season where we toiled to hold tight of a place in topflight football, Co-coaches Steven Bogere and Francis Mugerwa, and the players will be anxious this time to hit the ground running from the first whistle.
There has been a flurry of new arrivals for the Leaders, with David Bagoole and Alfred Leku headlining that legion of 13 new players at the club. Therefore, there could be a number of competitive debuts on Friday with most of the team’s summer signings in contention to play a part at the Lugazi FC Stadium.
Calvary are here after a stellar campaign in the FUFA Big League last season where they were crowned as the winners of the second tier in June.
Lugazi FC holds a 100% winning record against the visitors however– with the recent meeting between the sides ending in a 0-2 win for the Leaders, in the Stanbic Uganda cup round of 32 in Yumbe early this year.
Friday’s contest is going to be the sixth meeting between the two teams but their first clash in the UPL.

Team News:
The coaches have not reported any injuries as at the time of writing – meaning they have the full squad at their disposal.
What Co-coach Steven Bogere said;
“We had a thin squad last season but this time we have a balance in the team and squad depth. We used to play good football the past campaign but we were not scoring enough goals. This time, we have got the players we needed.”
“Our pre-season training has been running for about 8-9 weeks, and I can now say we have a good team! We have a strong team! And believe this time things are going to be better.”
“We are going to score lots of goals and win games as well – including our opener against Calvary FC.”
“We currently have a mix of youth and experience. The young players are so talented, and the experienced ones will play the master role as our team continues to grow.”
“We have prepared well for tomorrow’s game, and only waiting for the game. Calvary is a good team but we are equally just too good.”
Captain Richard Ayiko said;
“We have had a very good pre-season with some good friendly games, and it’s upon us as players to win this game.”
“This is our opening match of the season and we need to win it to set ourselves on the right track.”
