Uganda Premier League

Lugazi FC Stadium – Najjembe.

Lugazi FC Vs URA FC

Kick-off: 4pm

After almost a month away, Lugazi Football Club is back at the Lugazi FC Stadium – Najjembe for a Uganda Premier League action on Wednesday, against URA FC – with kick-off set at 4pm.

The Leaders return home following two consecutive away games either side of the October international break, looking to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat to Entebbe UPPC and the 0-0 draw at KCCA FC.

This will be Lugazi FC’s second home game this campaign – after the 3-1 victory over Calvary FC in their league opener that was played in late September.

Steven Bogere and Francis Mugerwa’s men have had a mixed run of results but it’s fair enough to say they have had a great start to the season, with them currently sitting in fifth place on the table with four points after three games.

They also have the second best offensive record in the league – with four goals scored, same as table toppers Buhimba Saints, and only behind Police FC who have found the net five times so far.

The tax collectors come into Wednesday’s encounter unbeaten in all the three games they have played after drawing to BUL FC, NEC and recently Express FC.

With this run of results, their three points can only put them in the 9th position on the table.

They however dominated this fixture last season – winning home and away with an identical score of 1-0 in both legs.

This is going to be the third competitive meeting between the two teams.

Team News:

Striker Alfred Leku, midfielder Derrick Mwanje and team captain Richard Ayiko all suffered knocks against KCCA FC but were involved in the last training on Tuesday. Therefore, they will be subjected to late fitness tests.

Alvin Birungi and Paul Busolo are both making positive progress on their injuries, with the pair back training on the grass together with their team-mates.

But this game has come too soon for Fahad Jumbe who is still under rehabilitation, and is the only confirmed player set to miss this game.

What Co-head coach Francis Mugerwa said:

“All the players available are in good shape. They have created a stiff competition within the squad and this has given us a team selection challenge, but it’s a good one any way.”

“Our visitors defeated us home and away last season and that taught us valuable lessons which will guide us this time.”

“They’re unbeaten but still among the teams that are yet to taste victory so far. However, they are a strong side and we respect them because they have a good coach and experienced good players.”

“They want this game but we need it more than them. Most of our players are available, and ready to compete, and this is giving us confidence coming into this game because everyone is yearning to play.”

Assistant Captain Wasswa Paul said:

“We are well prepared. We have four points from the three games we have played this season. This is because we have been managing and controlling these games well, and we shall handle and also treat Wednesday’s game the same way as the previous ones.”

“We are going to work hard just as we did in the past games so that we get what we want.”

“This game means a lot to us because we need those points to meet our team’s targets.  The coaches have prepared us well and laid very good strategies to help us get all the three points. As players, we are going to give everything.”
