Uganda Premier League
Maroons FC Vs Lugazi FC
Maroons Stadium – Luzira
Kick-off: 4PM
The Leaders return to action on Tuesday evening with a trip to the Maroons Stadium for a highly-anticipated Uganda Premier League fixture against Maroons FC.
Francis Mugerwa and Steven Bogere’s side currently sit 9th on the table with 9 points, after two wins and three draws in seven matches, and will aim for the first victory on the road this season.
With two defeats and one draw in three away games at this stage of the campaign, and with the last triumph on the road coming eight months ago in the 3-1 win over Mbale Heroes in mid-march, Lugazi FC ultimately need to begin crafting wins away from home as soon as possible.
Standing in the Leaders’ way are Umar Abdallah Loi’s Maroons who defeated them home and away last season.
But the Jailers have recorded a slow start to the campaign with just one win in six rounds of play – collecting five points to sit 14th on the table.
They are however unbeaten in four league fixtures at home, dating back to early May.
This is going to be the third competitive meeting between the two teams.

Team News:
In Monday’s media briefing, Coach Steven Bogere confirmed that two players will miss the trip to Luzira.
Striker Alfred Leku is still on national duty with the Bright Stars of South Sudan, midfielder Derrick Mwanje is still undergoing rehabilitation, while his midfield partner Solomon Okwalinga awaits a late fitness test.
Coach Steven Bogere said:
“We are not badly off, we are good team. We are going there knowing that we haven’t won any game away from home, but I think we deserve to win even away from home because we always prepare very well for these games.”
“We didn’t win our previous game against Express FC but we created good scoring opportunities although we missed a couple of them – we even hit the woodwork twice.”
“Creating opportunities is important but converting them is very crucial. We need to start taking up all our chances. Goals don’t come from out of the blue, goals are planned for, and they are not forced. Players have to be prepared to score them in the same way one prepares himself when cooking food.”
“We have prepared them well, again. We have corrected all the mistakes we made in the past games. In most of the trainings we have had, we have worked on our shooting skill and scoring of goals, and we believe we are very ready to face Maroons in Luzira.”
“Two players including Alfred Leku and Derrick Mwanje are not with us on Tuesday but we have other players who can fill their boots. They are starters and we are surely going to miss them but we can play well without them and get the three points.”
Assistant Captain Paul Wasswa said:
“We haven’t won any away game this season, and for this match, we have prepared so well for it. We need to win it. Scoring goals has been a challenge in some of the games but that has been worked on.”
“Our spirit is now very strong – the fans should expect a sweet victory in Luzira. We are not weak, so, Maroons should not expect a walk in the park because we surely need to win that game.”
“We are going there with grit, desperation and the will to win. We have so much respect for them as they are one of the most experienced sides in the league but we are prepared to handle them in the best way possible.”
