Stanbic Uganda Cup – R64

Kisugu United Vs Lugazi FC

Kiwuliliza Play Ground

Kick-off: 3 PM

Lugazi FC’s Stanbic Uganda Cup campaign begins away at the Kampala region third division outfit Kisugu United on Friday afternoon, with the Leaders entering the cup tie off the back of a hard fought away draw against SC Villa in the league.

They look to be on the rise since the arrival of Simon Peter Mugerwa as the head coach just over a month ago. The team is riding on a three game unbeaten run coming into this match, and currently enjoying some relative peace of mind having moved three places above the drop zone during that streak.

A comfortable victory on Friday would see it ease into the round of 32 as the Leaders aim to progress beyond the round of 16 where they stopped last season.

Kisugu United are taking on Lugazi FC for the first time in history, and they set-up this tie by virtue of four away victories; over Nakivubo Shauriyako, Elite Ex, Edgars FC, and Sparta 09 FC during their Uganda Cup qualification phase which saw their attacking midfielder Brian Tumusiime alias ‘Matu’ scoring seven goals.

Three days ago, they held Uganda Premier League side NEC FC to a two all draw in a friendly outing.

They currently occupy the ninth place on the 18 team Kampala regional league table, with 18 points after 16 games.

Team News:

Midfielder Derrick Mwanje has a niggling joint problem and is set to miss out on this game. Besides him, all the players, including striker Alfred Leku are available for selection.

Head coach – Simon Peter Mugerwa said our focus is on performing better in every game we play, and going deeper into this competition is very much on the agenda.

“I am very familiar with the team we are going to play. I have been following them for many seasons now. It’s a team on the rise with a very strong fan base and we expect a competitive game from them.”

“But we are also a team that’s improving game by game. We now want to use this opportunity against Kisugu United to show the improvements we have made.”

“We have the confidence that we are going to deliver a good game although we plan to give a chance to the players that haven’t had enough playing time in the league to also play for the team.”

“We respect Kisugu United, but we are going there with the determination to win.”
