Lugazi FC is pleased to announce the signing of electric winger Jeremy Matata from Calvary FC.

The versatile flank speedster has signed a two-year contract with the club, and will officially join up with coach Abbey Kikomeko Bogere and his new team-mates on Monday, August 3, 2026, for pre-season.

He is equally good with both the left and the right foot – making him deployable on either flanks of the pitch, and at right back.

“It’s has been while without working with my coach who introduced me to football when I was still at school. I have now got the opportunity to work with him again and I am eager to put up an excellent show under his good guidance,” he said.

“We need to put Lugazi FC up there. It’s going to be hard work here, I need to impress the coach because that’s the only way I can fit into his system.”

Matata, 23, began his career in 2018 with Jinja Secondary School in Jinja City. After rising through the school ranks, he was integrated into the Kirinya-Jinja SS squad for the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League season when he was just 18 years old.

During his time there, he made the wings his for two seasons before joining Mbale Heroes in 2023. His appearances at the Mbale club were however few and restricted by injuries.

Kator FC of South Sudan was his next destination for the 2025/26 season – playing in the 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup, and making the assist to Goddian Dickson for the only goal his new team scored at the tournament in Tanzania. It would however be a brief stay for him at Kator – Just six months but managed to generate four assists and two goals.

Calvary FC came calling, facilitating his return to the UPL in February of this year. He contributed two assists in the games he featured for the Horizon Stars.
