Uganda Premier League

Lugazi FC Vs UPDF FC

Lugazi FC Stadium – Najjembe

Kick-off: 4pm

Live on FUFA TV and Sanyuka Prime.

Lugazi FC play host to army side UPDF FC at the Lugazi FC Stadium on Friday evening, looking to get back to winning ways.

We couldn’t make our trip to St. Mary’s stadium count as a Karim Watambala second half goal dented our hope of a famous result against Vipers SC seven days ago.

The Leaders therefore come into this match after three back-to-back disappointing defeats to  SC Villa, Maroons, and the Venoms, whereas UPDF come into the clash in good spirit after beating Wakiso Giants, and recently holding title chasers – NEC FC to a goalless draw six days ago.

It’s a case of the 11th placed hosting one in the 10th position. So, both sides convene for this encounter looking to climb up on the league table.

Two points separate us, and a win for the Leaders will see us leapfrog the visitors, and possibly settle in the 9th place.

At the moment, we sit in the 11th position with 26 points after 22 matches. UPDF FC are just a place above us with 28 points from as many games.

The first meeting between the two teams was in mid-September last year at the Bombo military grounds where we lost 1-0.

Team News:

Currently, the team is free of any injuries and suspensions. All players are available and ready for selection.

Assistant coach Gerald Efiti spoke to us pre-match and said;

“It’s a side that we know is good. They have been winning some games, and they defeated us in the first round but we are going to do all we can to win tomorrow.”

“We have been having some challenges – not scoring enough, and not defending well. We have however trained and worked on that, and we are fine. Every player is in the camp and only waiting for Friday to win that game.”

Goalkeeper Juma Mutebi said;

“As players, we did not give enough in the previous three games we lost despite the coaches preparing us well in training and giving us all we needed. But in tomorrow’s game, we are going to double our efforts, we are going to work harder and we are going to win that game.”

“Coaches have helped us correct the mistakes that cost us in the previous games, and it’s now upon us to implement what they have taught us.”

“UPDF is a stubborn side but we are stubborn as well. It’s widely known we are one of the teams that’s hard to score against. So, we are going to come pound for pound. We are very ready for them and I know we are going to beat them.”
