Uganda Premier League

Lugazi FC Vs Buhimba United Saints FC.

Lugazi FC Stadium – Najjembe

Kick-off: 4pm

Lugazi FC return to Uganda Premier League action as Francis Mugerwa and Steven Bogere’s men welcome Buhimba United Saints FC to the Lugazi FC Stadium – Najjembe on Saturday evening.

This clash will be the third home game for the Leaders this season – with the team winning and drawing one apiece of their past two league engagements in the forest.

But come into this game off the back of a 4-0 defeat at Kitara FC the last time out, and they will be eyeing a return to winning ways this weekend.

The team has had a mixed pack of results since the season began – from recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Calvary on the opening day, to surrendering a 1-0 lead in the following game as they lost 2-1 away to Entebbe UPPC FC, before they seized KCCA FC and URA FC by the collar in their successive barren stalemates which preceded that slip in Hoima.

With one win, two draws and two defeats, Lugazi FC is currently placed in the 13th position on the table with five points from as many games. This means three points on Saturday will see the team climb up to at least the 9th place in the rankings.

Buhimba United Saints are competing in the UPL for the first time, and stroll into Saturday’s meeting sixth in the table with nine points after three wins and two defeats.

Their impressive start to season included wins against Entebbe UPPC, Calvary and neighbours Kitara FC.

But they have seen this stroke of luck intercepted as they have lost their past two consecutive outings, against BUL FC and SC Villa.

Team News:

Midfielders – Derrick Mwanje and Solomon Okwalinga are both out of this game because of injuries. The coaches will also miss the services of forward Sharif Saaka who is suspended for disciplinary issues.

What co-head coach Francis Mugerwa said;

“We have not won a game in a while, the players were affected psychologically after that loss in Hoima but we have spoken to them, worked on their mental strength, and re-awakened their former selves because we have to continue moving forward.”

“They are now psychologically fine, everyone is in good conditions and ready to step onto the pitch and fight for this team.”

“Goals determine who wins the game and we have been working tirelessly on creating opportunities and converting them with ease. Our emphasis has actually been on scoring goals ever since we came back from Hoima but this doesn’t mean that we shall not defend at all. We shall surely do so when necessary.”

“This game might however be a bit tough for both sides because both teams have not been winning recently but we know what’s coming, we know we haven’t given our fans something to cheer on for some time, we are going to hold it tight and fight hard until the last minute.”
